A TEEX EMS Operations and Planning for Weapons of Mass Destruction
course is scheduled for June 22 - 26 at the TEMS office (Weber Sim
Center) in Norfolk. This is a sought-after course with didactic, group
exercises and hands-on activities using very expensive WMS manikins.
Except for your time commitment, there is no cost for the course. There
are two prerequisites which can be completed on line. Various forms of

Description

Participants completing this program will be able to properly perform
patient triage, treatment, and transportation in the event of exposure
to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE)
weapons. The course consists of facilitated discussions, small group
exercises, hands-on activities, and task oriented practical applications
using both adult and pediatric human patient simulators to promote
critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID - Care concept.

Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate
the skills necessary for proper detection and monitoring, triage, mass
decontamination, treatment, stabilization, self-protection, and
cross-contamination prevention.

   

Prerequisites

Participants must complete two online courses before attending the

*	002a  Basic EMS Concepts for WMD Incidents 
*	005 WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders 

These Internet courses are available at no cost to the participant.

Topics

Content includes: Patient triage, decontamination, transportation and
treatment of patients in the event of a CBRNE incident. In addition,
this course addresses pediatric issues by utilizing a state-of-the-art
pediatric human patient simulator. 

Continuing Education Credits

This course has been approved for continuing education by:

*	Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical
Services (CECBEMS) 24 hours 
*	Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) 18.5 hours 
*	American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) 22.75 hours
