TEMS hosts "Keeping The Best!" retention trainings in February
EMS leaders are invited to attend training to take advantage of
Virginia's Keeping The Best! retention workbooks. The two featured
trainings are Maximizing Your Retention Efforts on February 1 from 8:30
a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and How to Use EMS Retention Principles on February 2
from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Both will be held at the Kent J. Weber
Emergency Response Training and Simulation Center at the Tidewater
Regional EMS Council office in Norfolk.
The sessions are designed for volunteer and career leaders who want to
learn how to apply new principles and processes to enhance their
workforce. Leaders who attended previous workshops in 2007 found both
sessions helpful and noted it was a productive weekend to network and
exchange information with peers.
Each day-long session is $25 and includes lunch, workbooks and class
materials. To register and for a detailed description of each Keeping
The Best! training, visit www.vaems.org/retention
<http://www.vaems.org/retention> . Credit card orders are accepted. A
list of neighboring hotels is also attached on the Web link. The
registration deadline for both classes is January 18, 2008. Class space
is limited to encourage class participation and interaction.
EMS leaders interested in becoming Keeping The Best! instructors will
need to take each of the respective classes they want to teach and meet
instructor selection guidelines. Contact Rohn Brown at
emstechasst at vdh.virginia.gov <mailto:memstechasst at vdh.virginia.gov>
for more information on becoming an instructor.

Class 1 Recall for Welch Allyn AED 10 manufactured between 3/29/07 and
8/9/07
FDA issued a Class I recall for Welch Allyn AED 10 Automatic External
Defibrillators manufactured between March 29, 2007 and August 9, 2007,
part numbers 970302E, 970308E, 970310E, and 970311E. These devices are
used by emergency or medical personnel, or by others who have taken the
appropriate training in cardiopulmonary arrest (heart attack). They
analyze an unconscious patient's heart rhythm and automatically deliver
an electrical shock to the heart if needed to restore normal heart
rhythm.
There is a possibility that these recalled devices may experience
failure or unacceptable delay in analyzing a patient's ECG resulting in
possible failure to deliver the appropriate therapy. The possible
failure or delay depends on the location of the defective part that
stores an electrical charge on the circuit board. The company plans to
replace all affected units and has set up a call center for customers.

Class 1 Recall Notice, at:
