EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
EMS Education Coordinator
The Tidewater Emergency Medical Services Council seeks a full-time
professional responsible for overall coordination of regional EMS
education and performance improvement programs.
EMS Education Coordinator duties include assisting EMS agencies plan and
implement basic and advanced training programs; providing technical
assistance to instructors, course coordinators and physician course
directors; conducting regional testing for ALS candidates; scheduling
and coordinating state EMS test sites; coordinating the council's
performance improvement plans and programs; assisting with publication
of a newsletter and website; and staffing several key committees.
Specific duties are listed in the job description.
The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The
benefits package includes health insurance, long-term disability
insurance, a retirement plan, eleven paid holidays, vacation accrual,
sick leave accrual and an educational assistance program.

* Bachelor's degree in a related field or any equivalent
combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills and abilities related to job duties.
* The skills, knowledge and abilities of an EMT-Intermediate,
Paramedic or Registered Nurse with a background of instructional
experience and a minimum of five years experience in the delivery of
prehospital EMS.
* Proficient oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to work Monday through Friday daytime with some evening
and weekend programs. Must provide own reliable transportation.
* Ability to organize, plan and coordinate various programs
efficiently and effectively.
* Ability to establish and maintain excellent working
relationships with prehospital and hospital personnel in the delivery
and administration of EMS.

EMS EDUCATION COORDINATOR
The EMS Education Coordinator is responsible to and will assist the
Executive Director in coordinating regional EMS education, performance
improvement programs and in developing and implementing related projects
supporting the objectives of the Tidewater EMS Council. Specific duties
include, but are not limited to, the following and shall be consistent
with Virginia Regulations governing EMS and specific Office of EMS
course guidelines and procedures:
1. Serve as a resource to EMS agencies, EMS Instructors, ALS
Course Coordinators and physician course directors and assist them with
course scheduling and logistics, course promotion, and provide
recommendations to maintain educational course consistency and quality.
2. Coordinate written and practical examinations and physician
interviews for all ALS students and ALS technicians who desire to
practice inside the region, and periodically revise the examinations to
reflect changes in regional and national training standards.
3. Schedule, register students, select coordinators and supervise
the conduct of state EMS test sites within the region.
4. Coordinate a performance improvement program (one each for EMS
and Trauma) involving periodic performance improvement plan revision,
receipt and processing of PI referral forms, periodic PI workshops,
provision of technical assistance to EMS agencies, regional PI projects,
promotion of available resources to conduct EMS-related research, and
periodic quality monitoring of educational programs.
5. Maintain a library of pertinent EMS journals and texts.
6. Maintain updated lists of EMS Instructors and identify areas
of need for additional instructors within the region.
7. Provide education and career information referrals for
callers.
8. Assist emergency operation centers coordinate emergency
medical dispatcher training programs.
9. Serve as primary staff support to the EMS Medical Operations
Committee, Education Workgroup, Operational Medical Directors Committee,
EMS Performance Improvement Committee and Trauma Triage Performance
Improvement Committee and other committees or workgroups as assigned by
the Executive Director.
10. Facilitate development and timely revision of medical protocols
and the development of educational materials to support revisions.
11. Periodically develop and submit articles and other information
of relevance for publication in the newsletter Response and website.
Assist with maintaining and updating the website as well as other means
of communicating information to the EMS community and general public.
12. Coordinate EMT-B evaluator classes and updates as needed.
13. Supervise a Program Support Specialist.
14. Perform such other duties and tasks as directed or delegated by
the Executive Director.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in EMS related field or any equivalent combination of
experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills
and abilities. Must possess the skills and knowledge of a certified
paramedic (EMT-P) or registered nurse (RN) with a background of
instructional experience and a minimum of five years experience in the
delivery of prehospital EMS. Proficient in oral and written
communication skills. Ability to organize, plan, and coordinate the
various training programs efficiently and effectively. Ability to
establish and maintain excellent working relationships with both
prehospital and hospital personnel involved in the delivery and
administration of EMS. Personal computer experience including
familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications desired. Adaptable
to a flexible schedule of working hours that may involve night and
weekend meetings and travel. Must provide own reliable transportation.
