Protocol Update: The 9th Edition of the Tidewater Regional EMS Protocols
has been printed and is being distributed. All ALS providers will
receive a pocket-size version of the protocols (via each EMS agency) and
each agency, hospital ED and OMD will receive a desk reference
notebook-size version. The new protocols will also be posted on the
council's website in the near future. An education package will be
forthcoming within several weeks. We hope you'll like the new protocols.
Sections have been color-coded and tabbed for convenience, protocols and
policies have been updated to the latest standards, and performance
indicators have been added. Again, many thanks to staff and work group
members who worked so hard to bring this year-long project to a
successful conclusion.

Mass Casualty Guides: The 2007 version of the Hampton Roads Mass
Casualty Guide has been completed and is being printed. A desk reference
notebook-size version of the plan will be distributed this month to each
EMS agency, hospital ED, OMD and locality emergency manager. A
pocket-size version of the guide (primarily the job aid portion of the
guide with check lists) for all first responders will be distributed in
about 30 days to each agency for distribution to responders. The guide
is now posted on the council's website on a new MCI page:
www.tidewaterems.org/mcim2007.html.

The Continuing Concepts in Prehospital Emergency Medicine mini-symposium
in Suffolk the past weekend was a success. In addition to great
education and fellowship, the prize raffle raised more than $1000 which
was matched by mini-symposium funds. In total, about $4000 will be
donated to the Public Safety Autism Awareness Training project and to
the Virginia Tech Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.

The May/June 2007 edition of the Response Newsletter will soon be posted
to the council's website at www.tidewaterems.org/ResponseNewsletter.htm
and hard copies are being mailed this week to those on the mailling
list. This edition includes a very important reader preference survey.
Please take a moment to complete and mail, email or fax the survey back
to Heidi Gamblin TEMS [gamblin at vaems.org or 757 963-0632 x 317 or fax to
757 963-2325], or visit our website and complete the survey online at
www.tidewaterems.org and click Response Survey in the News and Events
section. The survey will take less than two minutes. Thank you.

Some 6500 EMS providers throughout the Commonwealth were randomly
selected to participate in a statewide consultant study of the regional
EMS system. Based on the total numbers of providers in the state, and
the number in the Tidewater region, we anticipate that some 600
providers in this region have been or will be asked to participate.
Those randomly selected have already or will receive a letter and
followup post card (maybe in reverse order) regarding the survey which
will include a website address and user code to start the survey. We
urge your participation in the survey if you are selected. Thank you.
