Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad (NSVRS) will be hosting a
Tidewater Community College (TCC) taught Advanced Life Support (ALS)
class at Station 2, starting August 21, 2006 at 1800.

This course is designed to take existing EMT-Basics to the National
Registry EMT-Paramedic (NREMT-P) level, with opportunities to test out
at EMT-Enhanced (Virginia only) and National Registry Intermediate
(NREMT-I/99).

Students will also have opportunities to earn current Advanced Cardiac
Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced
International Trauma Life Saving (Advanced ITLS) and similar nationally
recognized advanced life support certifications as subject matter
embedded within the course curricula, as well as significant college
credits towards a Critical Care Paramedic degree.

As stated above, classes will begin August 21, 2006, and meet every
Monday and Wednesday, 1815-2200, in the upstairs classroom for the
didactic, while some Saturdays, 0800-1700, will be required for
practicals, the hands-on portion of instruction.

Field and clinical time will be individually scheduled by a TCC clinical
coordinator, offering students exposure to various agencies, departments
and healthcare facilities in the region, and some opportunities may
exist for skills waivers based on current and/or prior experience.

Students of all backgrounds are welcome, but must have current EMT-B and
CPR certifications, and be at least 18 years of age as of August 21,
