EMS Folks...

I sat at my desk today happily preparing to take one of the
TRAINVirginia classes online offering category 1 CE credit for ALS
providers. In order to actually make my time worthwhile, I pulled up my
CE Report from the OEMS webpage. I do consider myself fairly forward
thinking. After all, my Paramedic certification expires in May 2009. I
have about a bazillion category 2 hours and all but 4 of the required
category 1. I am sure that many of you fall into similar circumstances.

Ok, I need 4 cat. 1 hours. I return to the TrainVirginia page (which I
registered for the other day). None of the 4 required topics are there.
My always eager-to-help-co-worker here at PEMS quickly offered that
James City County just offered 3 of those hours. (Isn't that always the
case?) He added that those three hours were not included at the EMS
Symposium. They are not on TRAINVirginia either.

Now, the point of this email is that I am willing to coordinate/teach a
three hour class, possibly on a flip-flop basis, to anyone else who may
need these 3 hours. Yes, there are many others who may need quite
different classes, but this is self serving and worth a try.

       Allergic Reaction

      Possible Overdose

      Near Drowning

I would like to know the interest level here before I schedule the
classes. Also, please keep the PEMS office informed when you see
specific training needs falling through the proverbial cracks.

There are some good classes offered on TRAINVirginia that do offer Cat.
1 and 2 CE credits. Please take advantage of this fairly new technology.
(There are also NIMS classes, fire training, hazardous materials
awareness classes, and the list goes on. This is not a website dedicated
to EMS!)
