Job Description:
Under general supervision, provides skilled and technical training to
the Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services (PFRES) employees.
Employee is responsible for maintaining a pre-hospital emergency care
Continuing Education program in accordance with the PFRES policies and
procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for EMS personnel
training, continuing medical education and skills maintenance,
certification/recertification programs, quality improvement studies, and
records management. Work is usually performed independently within
established practices and procedures.

Education/Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by paramedic
courses required by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requires at least 1
year of experience in the provision of emergency medical care; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Req: Certification by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical
Services as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic as outlined in
12 VAC 5-31. Required to maintain the privilege to practice within the
PFRES EMS System; current ACLS, PALS, BTLS and CPR certifications. Must
be certified as a CPR Instructor with the ability to obtain ACLS,
PALS/PEEP, and BTLS instructor status within a 1 year time period. Must
complete Blood-borne Pathogens and HIPAA compliance training, and
participates in an annual refresher. Must have, at a minimum, a valid
class B driver's license for weighted vehicles. Certification as an
emergency vehicle operator. ICS 100 & 200 and NIMS 700 and 800
certifications required.
